HALL'S TRIPLE-DOUBLE LEADS UAM OVER CENTENARY

MONTICELLO – Junior forward Ricardo Hall recorded a triple-double to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team to a 71-62 win over Centenary at home Tuesday night.

 

Hall (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) finished the contest with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. The Boll Weevils (5-2) were led in scoring by senior Jerrell Boswell, who had 21 points, highlighted by a 19-point explosion in the second half. Boswell finished the game 5-of-13 from the field, 5-of-11 on three-pointers (all five in second half) and 6-of-7 from the foul line.

 

Junior Sergio Crowe also reached double-digits for UAM with 11 points.

 

The Gents (0-10) scored the game’s first five points before UAM cracked the scoreboard on a layup by sophomore Deric Corbin and the 17:27 mark. The contest was back-and-fort for the next 11 minutes before the Gents extended their lead to five points on 7-0 scoring run capped by a layup from Jeron Trotman at the 6:05 mark.

 

UAM answered with an 8-0 scoring run over the next three minutes, including a pair of dunks, the first by Corbin and the second by Hall, both assisted by junior LA Farmer.

 

Over the final 5:54 of the first half, UAM outscored the Gents 14-3 to hold a 29-23 lead at halftime.

 

In the second half, UAM used a quick 7-0 scoring run, including a pair of treys by Boswell, to extend its lead to 13 points at 36-24 at the 18:21 mark. That was the largest lead for either team in game that had five lead changes and one tie score.

 

As a team, UAM finished the contest shooting 48 percent from the field (23-of-48), 27 percent on three-pointers (6-of-22) and 58 percent on foul shots (19-of-33). Centenary shot 40 percent from the field (22-of-55), eight percent on three-pointers (1-of-12) and 61 percent from the free-throw line (17-of-28).

 

Centenary’s lone three-pointer was from Jonathan Blount at the 7:31 mark of the first half. It was the only trey made by either team in the first half.

 

Jeron Trotman led the Gents in scoring with 19 points. Logan Lowery, Roman Tubner and Maxx Nakwaasah also reached double-digits with 16, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

 

UAM continues its four-game home stand this Thursday against Ecclesia College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
