MONTICELLO – Five University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball players scored at least 10 points in a 90-51 win over Ecclesia College Thursday night at home.
The Boll Weevils (6-2) were led by junior LA Farmer, who was 7-of-16 from the field, 5-of-8 on three-pointers and 2-of-2 from the foul line for a game-high 21 points. He also added a team-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Junior Ricardo Hall trailed closely with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while adding six rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Junior Sergio Crowe finished with 16 points, senior Terrence Hill added 13 points off the bench, and senior Jerrell Boswell rounded out UAM’s double-digit scorers with 12 points off four three-pointers.
As a team, UAM shot an even 50 percent from the field (35-of-70), highlighted by a season-best 12 three-pointers. The Royals (2-10) finished the game shooting 29 percent from the field (17-of-58), 25 percent on three-pointers (7-of-28) and 59 percent from the foul line (10-of-17).
Ecclesia was led in scoring by Greg Lang, who posted a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Robert Valentine and Lenious Walls also reached double-figures, with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
UAM grew its lead to eight points in the first five minutes of the contest, capped by a three-pointer from Boswell at the 15:28 mark to give the Boll Weevils a 15-7 lead. UAM then posted a 7-2 scoring run to extend its lead to 13 points, capped by a pair of free-throws by Farmer.
In the last three minutes of the opening period, UAM reached its largest lead of the half of 15 points on a layup by Hill at the 2:33 mark to give UAM a 43-28 lead. The Royals answered with a 6-2 run on a pair of three-pointers by Robert Valentine to cut UAM’s lead to 11 points at half time with a score of 45-34.
UAM had its most impressive output on a 17-0 scoring run in the second half from the 11:14 mark to the 5:57 to bring the lead up to 35 points. LA Farmer scored 11 points during that run, including three treys.
The Boll Weevils are idle this weekend in preparation for next weekend’s Gulf South Conference Crossover games at home with West Alabama (12/17, 7:30 p.m.) and West Georgia (12/18, 4 p.m.).
