WONDER BOYS HANG ON TO BEAT UAM, 85-82

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech held on to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team by a final score of 85-82 on Saturday at Tucker Coliseum.

 

The Boll Weevils rallied to take a 60-58 lead with 11:17 left in the second half, but the Wonder Boys quickly responded with a 8-0 scoring run to bring their lead up to six points with 8:04 remaining.

 

UAM rallied once again with 3:18 remaining to cut the ATU lead to one point following five consecutive points from junior Sergio Crowe, including one of his two three-pointers.

 

Crowe hit his second three-pointer with 38 seconds remaining to cut ATU’s lead to three, and junior LA Famer did the same on a layup with nine seconds remaining.

 

ATU’s Laithe Massey missed the front end of a 1-and-1 situation, giving UAM a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Senior Jerrell Boswell’s attempt at the buzzer from the wing rimmed out to give the Wonder Boys the win.

 

Boswell finished the night with six three-pointers and a total of 18 points.

 

Farmer led all scorers in the contest with 25 points on 10-of-22 field goal shooting. Crowe and junior Ricardo Hall also reached double-digits with 20 and 11 points, respectively. Crowe added a game-high 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double.

 

James Causey and Jeremy Dunbar led ATU with 18 points each. Johnie Davis added 16 from the bench.

 

The Boll Weevils finished the contest shooting 46 percent from the field (29-of-63), 44 percent on three-pointers (10-of-23) and 54 percent at the foul line (14-of-26). The Wonder Boys shot 49 percent from the field (29-of-59), 32 percent on three-pointers (6-of-19) and 78 percent at the foul line (21-of-27).

 

UAM returns to action Thursday, January 20 in Searcy, Ark. against the Harding Bisons. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Rhodes Field House.
