COTTON BLOSSOMS TAKE ON LOUISIANA TECH IN FIRST EXHIBITION

Box Score

RUSTON, La. –
The UAM women’s basketball team opened the 2011-12 season tonight with the first of two exhibition games against Division I competition.

The Lady Techsters held their home court 79-52 after going into halftime with a 17-point lead. The Blossoms led early on for a few possessions. Taylor
Clark hit a jumper just under four minutes in to give UAM their first lead, 5-4, which was then expanded to four with an Erica Williams three pointer, 8-4.

Tech regained the lead for good about a minute later, 12-10 and cruised from there. They led 37-20 at the half, thanks in large part to rocky shooting by the Blossoms early on. UAM shot just 26-percent from the floor in the frame. That number improved significantly in the second half, to 40 percent, but by then it was too late to catch the Lady Techsters.

Three Blossoms finished the game in double-figures, with Taylor Clark leading the way with 14. Emili Slamons added 12 while Chelsea Johnson had 11 points on the night. Rebounding proved difficult all night long, as Tech out-boarded the Blossoms 54-26 for the game. Clark and Johnson each had five to set the high-mark for the team.

Tech’s Savanna Langston led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Whitney Jones led with 13 rebounds.

The Blossoms have one more exhibition game on their schedule as they travel up to the University of Memphis on Sunday to take on the Lady Tigers in a 2:00 p.m. start.
