BLOSSOMS FALL 57-66 IN SECOND GAME OF UAFS CLASSIC

Box Score

FORT SMITH, Ark. – A second half surge by the Falcons handed the Blossoms their second loss of the season today at the UAFS Lady Lions’ Classic.

Once again, the first half was neck-and-neck with neither team able to build any kind of a lead. The Falcons went into the break 28-26. Chelsea Johnson had ten in the half to pace the Blossom offense, but UAM shot just 35-percent from the floor in the period. Fortunately, they were still solid from the free throw line, going 12-of-14 for 86-percent.

The Blossoms came out of the break with possession, but they could not retie the game after missing on two attempts before UTPB’s Lauren Unger hit a three to put the Falcons up five two minutes into the new half. By 15:01 the Falcons were up ten and never looked back.

UAM’s shooting remained at 35-percent in the second half, but UTPB improved to 61-percent allowing the Falcons to pull away.

Chelsea Johnson added 12 in the second half to finish with a game-high 22 points and added six rebounds. Candace Virgadamo and Ariel Billington also finished with double figures at 12 and 10 points, respectively. Channon Haywood tied with Johnson for the team-high six rebounds.

The Blossoms will host their home opener this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against the Ecclesia College Royals.
