Box Score
MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM Boll Weevils remained perfect at home tonight, defeating Delta State 88-57.
UAM (4-1) never trailed as they opened the game on an 11-2 run. Sergio Crowe hit a three off an offensive rebound on the first possession of the game and Kori Forge capped it five minutes later with another three to give the Weevils the early cushion.
The Statesmen (2-2) never got closer than seven the rest of the way. UAM went into halftime up 20, 41-21, leaving Delta playing catch-up the rest of the night. DSU got the lead down to 18 thanks to a layup to open the half, but that would be the closest they would be for the rest of the night. The first half hole was simply too deep.
L.A. Farmer had 11 of his game-high 27 points by the end of the first half off 7-of-19 shooting from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. He and Forge each had three three-pointers on the night. Forge finished with 16 points and A.J. Calhoun added 11 to round out those in double figures.
Marqueys Brown led the Statesmen with 12 points. The Weevils shot 47-percent as a team on the night, going 31-of-66. They hit just 7-of-21 attempted threes, but still had more than Delta’s 2-of-15. UAM hit more free throws than the Statesmen took, going 19-of-26 from the line compared to just 7-of-13 for DSU.
The win is the fourth of the season for Coach Sharpe’s Weevils and it also stops a five-game losing streak to the Statesmen dating back to the 2008-09 season. UAM will take a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to take on Shepherd Tech on Saturday. Tip-off with the Eagles is scheduled for 4 p.m. following the conclusion of the women’s games in the UAM Hampton Inn Classic.
