BLOSSOMS FINISH EXHIBITION SCHEDULE AT MEMPHIS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
The UAM women’s basketball team played their final exhibition game today against the Memphis Tigers, falling 79-57.
 
The Tigers built up their lead in the first half, taking a 45-23 lead over the Blossoms. UAM had trouble scoring early on, shooting 32-percent from the floor, including just 2-of-9 from three. Memphis went 16-of-35 from the floor and 11-of-18 from the free throw line to take the 22-point lead into the break.
 
Things evened out in the second half, with both teams adding 34 points to their totals. The Tigers went on a three-minute dry spell at the end of the game while the Blossoms improved to 56-percent shooting in the second half, 14-of-25 and 6-of-11 from three.
 
Four different Blossoms finished in double figures, led by 13 from Chelsea Johnson. Candace Virgadamo, Erica Williams, and Channon Haywood each finished with 12 points. Williams led the way on the boards with six total rebounds. The Tigers pulled in 39 total on the game to 26 for UAM. Memphis’ Jasmine Lee led all scorers with 24 points and 16 rebounds.
 
The Blossoms will open regular season play this week as they travel up to Fort Smith to play in the Lady Lions Classic, hosted by the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. They will take on Fort Smith on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. before facing the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Saturday at noon.
