Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The Cotton Blossoms fell 52-65 to Incarnate Word in the first game of the 2011 St. Mary’s Classic.

The two teams went back-and-forth early on, but the Cardinals began to pull away mid-way through the first half. A layup from Alex Hart gave UAM their final lead of the night, 16-15. From that point, Incarnate Word outscored the Blossoms 22-8 to close out the half up 37-24.

UAM cut the lead down to seven two minutes into the second half, but could not get closer the rest of the way. The two teams each added 28 in the second half to set the 65-52 final.

Alex Hart led UAM with 16 points on the night, she was the only Blossom in double figures as the team shot 35-percent for the game. She tied with Incarnate Word’s Jacelyn Jarmon for the game high of 16. The Cardinals shot 47-percent from the floor.

The Blossoms were out-rebounded by 10, 39-29. Neither team shot well from three, with the Blossoms going 4-for-19 (21-percent) and the Cardinals hitting 2-of-10 (20-percent).

The Blossoms will finish 2011 tomorrow afternoon as they take on tournament host St. Mary’s University at 3:00 p.m.
