NO. 16 HARDING SHOOTS PAST WEEVILS, 91-71

MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team did not find an answer for 57 percent field goal shooting by the 16th-ranked Harding Bisons in a 91-71 loss Thursday night inside Steelman Field House.

The Bisons (20-3, 10-1 Gulf South Conference) took an early lead, and with the exception of one first-half rally by UAM, kept a large margin throughout the contest due to 59 percent shooting in the first half and 56 percent shooting in the second half.

The Boll Weevils (12-11, 4-7 GSC) used an 8-0 run from the 17:12 mark of the first half to the 15:12 mark to take their largest lead of the contest at seven points following a tip-in by junior Sergio Crowe.

The Bisons held UAM to only 10 points in the final 10 minutes of the first half, while scoring 25 during that span to take a 43-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A layup and a jumper by Harding’s Stephen Blake in the first minute of the second half gave the Bisons their first 20-point lead of the game. UAM kept HU’s lead under 20 points for the next 16 minutes, and trimmed the lead to as little as 10 points with 9:12 remaining following a three-pointer by Crowe. The Bisons reached their largest lead of the contest at 21 points in the final two minutes.

Junior Ricardo Hall led UAM with 20 points off 5-of-13 field goal shooting, including one three-pointer. The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native was 9-of-12 from the foul line. Crowe, senior Jerrell Boswell and junior D’Angelo Dean all reached double-digits for UAM as well with 18, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

HU’s Blake led all scorers with 21 points.

UAM returns to action this Saturday, February 19 for the team’s second trip to Arkadelphia of the week, this time to face Ouachita Baptist. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
