WEEVILS SURVIVE AT OBU, KEEP POSTSEASON CHANCES ALIVE

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team held on for a 71-70 win over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at Bill Vining Arena to keep the team’s hopes for a postseason berth alive.

Junior Ricardo Hall led the Boll Weevils (13-11, 5-7 Gulf South Conference) with his second consecutive game with at least 20 points. In the win over the Tigers (9-15, 4-8 GSC) the Tuscaloosa, Ala. native tallied 26 points on 8-of-13 field goal shooting, but scored almost a third of his points at the charity stripe, where he was 10-of-14.

However, two of Hall’s missed free throws came with three seconds remaining in regulation to give the Tigers a chance to win at the buzzer. Austin Mitchell’s potential game-winning three-point attempt missed, allowing UAM to snap its three-game losing skid.

UAM reached its largest lead of the game of nine points with 10:46 remaining in the first half following a 12-2 scoring run over the previous five minutes. OBU held its largest lead of seven points with 17:10 left in the second half after a pair of three-pointers by Jeremy Banks.

Junior LA Farmer rallied with 15 second half points to reach the 20-point mark as well. The Carrollton, Ga. native finished the contest with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including one three-pointer. Junior Sergio Crowe also reached double-figures for UAM with 12 points.

OBU was led in scoring by Julian LaDay with 14 points, Jeremy Banks with 13 and Nigel Ramsey with 11.

The Boll Weevils finished the contest shooting 53 percent from the field (25-of-47), 17 percent on three-pointers (2-of-12) and 73 percent on foul shots (19-of-26). The Tigers shot an even 50 percent from the field (25-of-50), 39 percent on three-pointers (11-of-28) and 69 percent on foul shots (9-of-13).

UAM returns to action Thursday, February 24 against Southern Arkansas for the final home game of the season. Tipoff is set for approximately 7:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
