WEEVILS BETTER POSTSEASON CHANCES IN ROAD WIN OVER BUCS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team improved its position in the Gulf South Conference West Division standings with a 72-59 win over Christian Brothers on Thursday at Canale Arena.

The Boll Weevils (12-8, 4-4 GSC) pulled off a rare feat in the win, becoming the first team this season to score at least 70 points against the Buccaneers (16-6, 4-4 GSC). CBU entered the contest ranked first in the GSC in scoring defense at just over 55 points allowed per game.

UAM found consistency from all phases of the game, shooting 51 percent from the field (23-of-45), 50 percent on three-pointers (8-of-16) and 72 percent at the free-throw line (18-of-25). Individually, the team placed four scorers in double-figures, led by juniors LA Farmer and Jerrell Boswell with 19 points each to tie for the game-high. Junior Ricardo Hall and freshman Dwayne Bingham also reached double-figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

It was Bingham’s first double-digit performance of his career, and first game with more than three points.

CBU was led by Michael Drake and Alex Rogers with 16 and 14 points, respectively. As a team, the Bucs shot 40 percent from the field (22-of-55), 32 percent on three-pointers (8-of-25) and 70 percent at the foul line (7-of-10).

The Boll Weevils have their first Saturday off since conference play began, and return to action next Thursday, February 10 in Arkadelphia, Ark. against Henderson State. Tipoff is set for approximately 8 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center. UAM defeated the Reddies 69-56 on January 13 in Monticello.
