BASEBALL SPLITS SECOND DOUBLEHEADER WITH MCKENDREE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game 1 | Game 2

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM baseball team made it three-of-four today against McKendree, splitting the final doubleheader of the series, 0-1 and 3-0.

After producing 30 runs on day one, the Weevils (7-2) probably wish they had held a few back for today, falling 0-1 in game three of the series. McKendree (1-3) pitchers Cole Wille and Grant Klingelhoefer combined for the two-hit shutout.

Taylor Eaves and Chase Stokes were the only two Weevils to make solid contact against the Bearcat duo. Russell Watts took the loss for the Weevils, giving up the one run off six hits in six innings. The Bearcat run came in the sixth inning. Brandyn Snider led the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ronnie Calvird. Brandon Gargus then drove him in with a single through the left side of the infield that rolled out to Danny Loya in left.

The Weevils ended the series on a bright not in game four, however. They used a run in the first and two in the third to win game two with a shutout of their own. Taylor Eaves led off the game with a single to third and came home two batters later thanks to Loya and Wayne Hawkins’ singles to the outfield.

The lead was extended to three in the bottom of the third after Loya led off with a walk and was driven in three batters later by a Hunter Allday single. Josh Chism had moved him to second the spot before and waited as Chase Stokes brought him in from third with a sac fly to center.

From there Josh Chism closed the book on the Bearcats. The senior righty went the full seven innings allowing just four hits and two walks in 27 batters faced. He struck out 10 on the day.

The Weevils will attempt another Saturday-Sunday double doubleheader this weekend as they host the University of Illinois at Springfield. First pitch on both days is scheduled for noon at Weevil’s Field.
