Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM men’s basketball team held off the Harding Bison, 80-73, tonight on Senior Night.
The Weevils (19-8, 9-6 GAC) and the Bison (13-12, 8-7 GAC) went back-and-forth all night. The game saw eight separate lead changes and six ties before the Weevils pulled away at the end. Both teams had modest leads in the first half. Harding got as high as seven, 11-18, with 12:17 remaining in the first and the Weevils got as many as four ahead, including at the half, 38-34.
The Bison led only once in the second half, less than five minutes into the period, 43-45, but it would be their last lead of the night. The Weevils retook the lead thanks to a layup and three-pointer from L.A. Farmer and held at least a three-point lead for the rest of the game.
The Bison outshot the Weevils from the field and from three. Harding shot 26-of-50 (52-percent), including 13-of-21 from three (61-percent) to the Weevils’ 27-of-59 (45-percent) and 8-of-23 from three (34-percent). UAM made up for it at the free throw line, going 18-of-26 (69-percent) to HU’s 8-of-10 (80-percent).
UAM’s three seniors had strong finishes in their Steelman Field House swansong. L.A. Farmer set a new career high with 34 points in 40 minutes off 10-of-20 shooting, including five three-pointers, and went 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Sergio Crowe had 19 points and eight rebounds in 38 minutes, and Ricardo Hall had nine points, four rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots in 38.
The regular season will close on the road for the Weevils this Saturday evening as they take on Ouachita Baptist at 4 p.m. in Arkadelphia. The Weevils are still playing for final seeding in the upcoming GAC Basketball Tournament next week in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
