Box Score Box Score

MONTICELLO, Ark. –
The Boll Weevils completed the three-game sweep of the University of Illinois at Springfield today, 12-2.

UAM (10-2) scored all 12 of their runs in the first three innings and coasted all the way to their tenth victory of the year on a strong pitching performance from Chris Guzman.  Hunter Allday and T.J. Cox led the offensive effort for the Weevils with four runs batted in, each, off two hits and three at-bats.

Cox drove the first run in with a single to left in the first, his second came in the second inning on a fly out to right, and a double in the third drove in the other two. Allday got a single to right in the first, a double to right in the second to drive in two more, and his final RBI of the day came in the third off a fly out to left.

UIS (0-3) broke up the shutout in a three-hit sixth inning, but Guzman got out of the jam before any other runs could score on his watch. Ryan Reyes came in to pitch the eighth for the Weevils and gave up the other run on three walks and a hit batter before getting a double play with the bases loaded to end the threat.

Guzman collected his second win of the season in seven innings of work. He allowed the one run on five UIS hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. Reyes and Alex Mann closed out the game with an inning apiece. Reyes gave up the other run on no hits with three walks and a strikeout. Mann struck out the side in the ninth to retire the Prairie Stars.

The Weevils will return to the diamond this-coming Tuesday at noon as they host the Lyon College Scots in an afternoon doubleheader at Weevil Field.
