UAM ready to open 2019-20 at Central Region Tipoff Classic

The UAM men’s basketball team will travel to Warrensburg, Missouri to begin its 2019-20 campaign at the Central Region Tipoff Classic. The Weevils will play at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Augustana (S.D.) and at 4 p.m. on Sunday against Southwest Minnesota State

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team will travel to Warrensburg, Missouri to begin its 2019-20 campaign at the Central Region Tipoff Classic. The Weevils will play at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Augustana University (S.D.) and at 4 p.m. on Sunday against Southwest Minnesota State University.

SCOUTING THE WEEVILS
Last time out, the Weevils played in their exhibition at Arkansas State and lost, 65-49. UAM traded leads with the Red Wolves a pair of times, but ASU controlled the lead late in the second half and earned the win.
 
The Weevils shot 32.1 percent from the floor and 34.6 percent from three-point land. They did lead ASU in rebounds with 41 as opposed to the Red Wolves' 34.
 
Wanya King and Marcus Gilbert tallied double figures in points with King tallying 19 and and Gilbert posting 15.
 
UAM and Augustana last met in the NCAA Tournament back in the 2016-17 season.
 
The Weevils and Southwest Minnesota State will play for the first time in their history on Sunday.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
The Augustana men's basketball team returns all but one player from the 2018-19 team. The Vikings have three seniors, six juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen. Back are 14 faces from last year including second-team All-NSIC selection Matt Cartwright. The junior averaged 16 points per game a season ago and ranked in the top-30 nationally with his 42.5 3-point field goal percentage.
 
The Vikings also welcome back Adam Dykman who played in just one game last year before injury but averaged 10.9 points per game as a sophomore in 2017-18. Other top returners include Tyler Riemersma and Michael Schaefer, who each scored 13.7 points per game.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
SMSU is returning five letter winners and two starters from last season.
 
The Mustangs do not have a senior on their roster this season and feature four juniors, two sophomores, three redshirt freshmen and five true freshmen.
 
Kenny Byers is a key returner who started 31 games a season ago and was the team's top returning scorer shooting 49 percent from the field and connecting on 21 three's.

UAM will head back to Monticello for its home opener next Saturday against Champion Christian College at 4 p.m.
