Rick Owens was a four-year letterman for the Weevil baseball team from 1976-1979. He earned 1st team All-AIC and All-NAIA as a 3rd baseman during the '78 season and was also named an Academic All-American. In addition to playing baseball, Rick was very active on the UAM campus as student athlete. He was a member of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, Alpha Chi honor society, sports editor of the '78 and '79 yearbook and campus herald and worked in the SID department. Rick was also the sports editor for the Advance Monticellonian and was the voice of the Weevils on KHBM radio. After graduating, he remained in the sports world both in business and coaching. He owned Southeast Athletics Sporting Goods in Monticello and was also the head baseball coach at UAM from 1984-1986. He then opened a baseball card store, Baseball Cards Etc., while also coaching and teaching at Monticello Jr. and Sr. High School. Rick moved to Arlington, Texas in 1995 and worked at the Texas Rangers Ballpark before moving to Houston. He was a sales manager at Tristar Sports Productions and now has his own company, RGO Sports. Rick has been married for 35 years to the former Donna Wilson, a 1980 UAM graduate and daughter of former UAM employees, Waymon and Virginia Wilson. They have one son, Tyler, who resides in Chicago.

He also set the single season batting average record in that season with a .441. In his time at UAM he worked with UAM Athletics in the SID department, as well as being the voice of the UAM football team in the 1978 season.
